The Dunhuang, Resonance of Silk Road Past and Present Concert which held at Quanzhou Grand Theatre, is one of the performances of the 4th Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival, the Belt and Road Initiative “Performance Week”. Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble is honored to join such a unique festival. With the great success of the concert, it received a high reputation and favorable criticism of Quanzhou citizen. The Ensemble is honored to fulfill its mission, to revitalize and share Dunhuang culture and music to audience through the concert performance.
The Dunhuang, Resonance of Silk Road Past and Present Concert contains 8 pieces of music. Some of them are new original compositions written by the two ensemble resident composers, such as “Rhapsody of Tang Dynasty”, “Enlightenment”, “Lone Howl”, and “Fugue in C Major”, etc. in which were created under the inspiration of Dunhuang murals.
Besides, the Ensemble also brings the ancient music to life by transferring the modernized element into their recreation of new music composition, like the rearranged piece of “Three Variations of Yangguan” and Ancient Dunhuang Pipa Score “Sorrow of a Changsha Woman”. It has reached the perfection of “Ancient music with new interpretation in creation”.
During the performance, the Ensemble created a special visual animation of Dunhuang murals as its stage effect. It creates the spectacular unique theatric experiences for the audience to “feel” Dunhuang with various senses. The welcoming support and warm applause from the audiences drew a perfect end to the "Belt and Road Imitative" performance week of the 4th Maritime Silk Road International Art Festival.
