Workshop 1: Dunhuang Ancient Instruments DIY

The “Dunhuang Ancient Instrument DIY Workshop,” co-hosted by the Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s 18 Arts Sham Shui Po Community Arts Program, offers an artistic journey through time! Participants will not only have the chance to learn about the colors, patterns, and instruments found in Dunhuang murals, but they will also get to create their own pipa and zhongruan, decorating them with Dunhuang motifs. This workshop allows children to learn about ancient music and legendary stories in a fun and engaging way.

Target Audience: Suitable for children and their parents (priority given to residents of Sham Shui Po)

Quota: 40 participants per session (2 people per parent-child group)

Location: Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre Activity Rooms (JCCAC L7-19 & L4-03A)

Fee: Free

First Session: July 26, 2024 (Friday)

  • Second Class (Zhongruan Making): 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Third Class (Pipa Making): 4:15 PM – 6:15 PM

Workshop 2: A Deer of Nine Colors Paper Pulp Painting DIY

The Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble is excited to present the “A Deer of Nine Colors Paper Pulp Painting DIY” workshop. Participants will explore the enchanting image of the “A Deer of Nine Colors” found in Dunhuang murals, learning about its cultural significance and meanings. Children will have the opportunity to create their own paper pulp paintings of the “A Deer of Nine Colors” using various techniques such as dyeing and shaping to depict this classic Dunhuang motif.
