HKGDE was invited by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to perform in four cities in the Greater Bay Area: Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, and Foshan, to bring them the beauty of the innovative Dunhuang music and to promote cultural exchange and friendship among the people in these cities.
The concert "Nature’s Concerto: “Music from Heaven, Earth & Man” " revolves around Chinese culture, weaving together the 1,600-year history of Dunhuang and the 600-year history of the Forbidden City to illustrate 2,000 years of Chinese heritage. Through music and artifacts, it narrates the relationship between heaven, earth, and humanity over the millennia.
During the evening, the two orchestras will perform ten pieces, guiding the audience through murals, experiencing nature, and listening to the connections that span a thousand years—rising from sound and resonating from the heart. All pieces are original compositions by the two resident composers of the orchestra, inspired by the Buddhist sculptures and the imagery found in the Dunhuang caves, as well as the artifacts, architecture, and stories of the Forbidden City.
Additionally, some pieces draw from ancient pipa scores of the Tang Dynasty and are performed with various traditional instruments. This is a celebration of "ancient melodies renewed," aiming to connect different times and spaces through music.
This tour not only showcases the unique charm of Dunhuang ancient music but also allows the audience to gain a deeper understanding of the essence of Chinese culture. The passionate performances and dedication of the orchestra members enable every audience member to feel the power of cultural exchange. As the music resonates, the audience's spirits are uplifted on this transcendent musical journey through time, creating anticipation for more such cultural feasts in the future.
