Alvin Chan
Resident Musician (Percussion)
Chan studied in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts where he holds a degree in Bachelor of Music with first-class honour. He is now pursuing his Master’s Degree under the full scholarship of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund. His teachers are Dr Lung Heung-wing, James Boznos and Alan Cumberland. During his study, he has been awarded the SAR Philharmonic Scholarship and the Chan Ho Choi Enchanting Music Scholarship. He participated in the masterclasses of Christopher Deviney, Thierry Miroglio, Li Biao, and Pius Cheung. Chan toured to China, Taiwan and Japan as a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2015. In 2017, he performed in the World Dance Alliance Global Summit in St. John’s, Canada, as an accompanist under the support of Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Chan currently is the resident musician (percussion) of Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble and freelance player of Macau Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Philharmonia APA. He is also a member of the ethnic drumming group “Island Sun Drum”.
