Nicky Kwok
Resident Musician (Dizi, Xiao, Xun)
Kwok learned dizi from Lai Kam Biao, Chan King Tsun and Wai Sing Fa successively since he was nine. Kwok currently an Advanced Diploma 2 student of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, following the dizi principal of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) Prof. Sun Yong-zhi and percussion principal of HKCO Mr. Yan Xue-min for a minor in percussion.
Kwok is currently the resident musician (wind instruments) of Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble, he also the dizi principal of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra and a member of the HKAPA Chinese Orchestra and Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra. Kwok has participated in numerous international competitions and has rich performance experience, for example, Kwok won the second place and other excellent results in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival in advanced and senior levels for dizi. In 2017, he went to Hang Zhou for the first “Tong Yin Cup” dizi invitational tournament and won the gold award of the youth group A (Professional). Kwok has followed different music organizations to Beijing, Taiwan, Zhanjiang, Shanghai and Shenyang for performance and music exchanges. He has also participated in the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp and have music exchanges with young people from Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, China, etc.
