Loris Yue
Concert Master (Sheng)
Born in Hong Kong, Yue is the concert master of Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble and a principal member of JohnChen Ensemble currently.
Yue started learning the sheng at the age of 8 under Loo Sze Wang at the Hong Kong Music Office, then studied in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts since 2013. And graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree in 2019 under the famous sheng master Cheng Tak Wai and minoring in Chinese percussion under Yim Hok Man (Percussion Principal of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra). Yue received the ‘HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund’ to complete his Advanced Diploma in Music. He was also one of the recipients of HSBC HKAPA Mainland China Study Programme Scholarships, and participated in the masterclass with sheng master Weng Zhenfa.
Yue has collaborated with different art groups, including the Hong Kong String Orchestra, Musicus Society, Four Gig Heads Percussion Group, Xiqu Center of West Kowloon Cultural District, Utopia Cantonese Opera Workshop etc, and has performed in Finland, Dunhuang, Kunming, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Quanzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Macau.
Yue represented the Chinese Music Department of HKAPA to attend the “Musicus Fest in Kauniainen” by Musicus Society and performed a Chinese music concert with some difficult styles of Chinese and Western music in April 2017. Also attended the “Shenzhen and Hong Kong Youth Culture Exchange Art Festival” with the famous Hong Kong cellist, Mr. Trey Lee at Shenzhen in June, 2017. These two performances were reported by Finland’s classical radio (Radio Classic), Hong Kong’s newspaper and TV news in Shenzhen. Yue also organized a graduation recital “Bam-blo-free” in August, 2017.
In 2019, Yue organised his Bachelor graduation recital at HKAPA, two concerts at Tai Kwun with different themes. He is also invited to be a guest performer at the Le French May Rendezvous concert, and is part of the JohnChen Ensemble as the 2019 Community Cultural Ambassador to tour around Hong Kong.
